Lunch and coffee with my Finnish friend 日替わりランチとコーヒー牛乳 【フィンランド】

Cozy little cafe in Turku

友達おすすめのカフェで日替わりランチを頂きました。

その日はたまたま、トナカイの肉がメインで

フィンランドの伝統的な食事を味わうことが出来ました。

トナカイの肉は少し高いので、

普段はあまり食べる機会がありません。

記念日などの特別な日に食べることが多いそうです。

食べてみた感想は、ちょっとパサついた感じはありましたが

おいしかったです。

食後はアラビアのカップでゆっくりコーヒータイム。

ちなみに、フィンランドの多くのカフェでは

基本的にコーヒーはおかわり自由です。

フィンランド人はコーヒーが

大好きで、一日に平均4〜5杯飲むと言われています。

コーヒーは濃い味ではなく、

あっさり、さっぱりした味わいです。

そして、フィンランド人の特徴は

ミルクをたっぷり入れる人が多いことです。

フィンランド人はミルクが大好き。

学食のビュッフェでもミルクをたっぷり飲んでる人が多いです。

アラビアのカップで飲むコーヒー牛乳とおいしいチョコレート。

フィンランド流コーヒーの楽しみ方です。

Studio Aalto アアルトの見た風景 【フィンランド】

Alvar Aaltoはフィンランドを代表する偉大な建築家です。
彼の建築はフィンランド各地で見ることができます。

また、彼のことを知らなくても、
彼の設計した Stool 60は一度は目にしたことがある方が多いと思います。

アアルトの建築事務所 Studio Aalto は閑静な住宅街にあります。
私はどこにあるか見過ごしてしまい、随分迷ってしまいました。
ここを訪れる際には、人通りも少ないので、迷わないよう余裕を以て行きましょう。

スタジオではスタッフは時間をかけて
光の取り方、素材の使い方、都市計画などを解説してくれます。
質問をすると丁寧に答えてもらえました。

また、事務所を出て散策すると、大きな公園や穏やかな湾があり、
湾を一望できる原っぱにはベンチが置いてあります。
アアルトもこのベンチで、時々、作品のことを考えていたのかな、と思いを巡らすと
感慨深いです。

スタジオの中は白い壁で覆われ、
広くとられた窓から自然光が入ってくるようになっています。

自然素材を多く使用し、曲線を描いた壁に囲まれると
まるで自然の中にいるような気分になり、
彼の建築の真髄に触れることができます。

Japanese Great Designer Passed Away 榮久庵憲司さんとフィンランド

February - I felt deep sorrow.
Kenji Ekuan, Japanese industrial designer died at the age of 85.

He designed wide variety of products from soy sauce bottle to Shinkansen.
He tried to get "soul and material things" together,  make the never-fused two worlds into one.

"The ultimate design is little different from the natural world."

His design philosophy seems to be same as Finnish design.
Actually, according to the article of Embassy of Finland,
"Mr.Ekuan fell in love with Finnish nature and design."
He promoted Finnish design and designers to Japan and the world,
and received the Commander in the Order of the Lion of Finland in 2004.

In 2014, he also received Compasso d'Oro for Lifetime Achievement.

I met him at the begging of December last year,

he talked to me gently.

He said to me,
"Please keep your pure heart. It's very difficult to keep it, but it's very important for designer."

New Year's Celebration 新年の祝い菓子 ますね 【京都】

Happiness in a small box

This is one of Japanese traditional confectionery for celebrating the New Year.

I bought a box contains Rakugan (dry confection) and jelly.

Each shapes are inspired by nature or lucky charms: 
Mt.Fuji, plum, bamboo, daffodil, bag of rice and so on.

Usually, they are in a beautiful paper box like this picture.
Many wishes are in this small box.
I always feel as if I opened a treasure box!

I bought this at "Masune", Kyoto.
It's on Sanjyo Street near Teramachi Street. 
How about visiting there when you go to Nishiki Market?

Kenji Ekuan Prize at MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL JUNIOR DESIGNER AWARD 2014 榮久庵憲司賞

I won a Judge’s Special Prize 

– Kenji Ekuan Prize at MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL JUNIOR DESIGNER AWARD 2014　

This is the most famous award for graduation works on design in Japan.
It's hosted by  the Mitsubishi Chemical Junior Designer Award Executive Committee and specially sponsored by Mitsubishi Chemical. 


They hold this competition every year for seeking tomorrow's leading designer and supporting their career.

It's very honorable for me to receive such a great prize. 
My proposal is a feeding cup that should reduce the psychological burden on patients undergoing treatment.
I designed it from my experience that I was in hospital.
I would like to improve the quality of life for the patient undergoing treatment.

This exhibition will be held at Tokyo International Forum from 30th Nov. to 2nd Dec.
